Anti-tout guide to be distributed across music industry

The Music Managers Forum (MMF) and FanFair Alliance have teamed up to produce a guide that aims to help managers minimise touts getting hold of their artists’ tickets, according to Music Week.

The guide, which is available to download for free via www.fanfairalliance.org, offers 10 tips on how to beat the touts, as well as case studies from managers and professionals within the music industry.

The guide will be circulated by the forum to its 500 manager members.

Earlier this week, MMF linked up with Songkick to host a summit on ticketing in London, where the topic of how to tackle touts who snap up tickets and post them on secondary websites at inflated prices was central to the discussion.

Adam Tudhope, the co-founder of the FanFair Alliance campaign against online ticket touting and the manager of top band Mumford & Sons, described the guide as a “first step” towards a collaborative industry-wide effort to beat the touts.

“When we launched FanFair in July of this year, we encouraged managers, agents, promoters and others in the live music business to continue to innovate to ensure our artists’ tickets reach their intended audience at the right price,” he said.

“We all know that this is a huge challenge. We are operating within a dysfunctional market, where the abuse of unregulated ticket resale websites is out of control. However, while we wait for government to act, it is essential that managers and music businesses develop ticketing strategies that aim to disrupt the touts and help fans. This guide marks a first step towards that goal.”
