Glastonbury tickets sell out in 50mins

Tickets for Glastonbury 2017 sold out in less than an hour on Sunday despite the official website crashing.

Many music fans claimed that both the See Tickets-powered ticket platform and Glastonbury’s own website were not accessible after the sale began at 9am.

However, See Tickets announced that its platform had processed 135,000 ticket sales in just 50 minutes later.

Tickets, which were around 4% more expensive than last year at £243, were only available via the official online channel this year with no phone service available. Only a deposit was due on Sunday, with full payment required by next spring.

During the short selling period, See Tickets tweeted: “Huge demand for @GlastoFest tickets this morning. Tickets selling so do keep trying. If you’re trying to book @GlastoFest tickets please stick to one tab/device only.”

Radiohead, Kasabian and Guns N’ Roses are among the bands touted to headline the Somerset event according to bookies.
Demand was expected to be particularly high as Glastonbury will take its customary rest year during 2018 before returning in 2019.

Festival organiser Emily Eavis, daughter of founder Michael Eavis, tweeted: “Tickets have now sold out. Thank you for your huge support and loyalty and we are sorry to those who missed out.”
