Facebook offering direct ticket sales

Facebook has linked up with ticketing agencies Eventbrite and Ticketmaster to offer users the chance to buy tickets directly from its website.

The social media platform, which has 1.65 billion monthly active users, and Eventbrite have already soft-launched their integration, with tickets for “a number of single-tier, general-admission events in the US” available.

The programme is currently being tested on Facebook’s desktop site, and iOS and Android apps.

Facebook users can buy tickets through Eventbrite with just two clicks, as all their personal and financial information is provided, while Ticketmaster customers will be redirected to that site when the service becomes available.

“Millions of people use Facebook to discover and learn more about local events,” said a Facebook spokesperson. “In our research, we’ve found that some of the top reasons why people don’t go to an event are because they found out about it too late or they didn’t know who else was going.

“In addition to giving people meaningful social context around events they might consider attending, this pilot will allow people to make ticket purchasing on Facebook easier and faster, especially on mobile devices.”
