SSE Hydro criticised for ticketing stance

Scotland’s largest music venue, SSE Hydro, is allowing touts to cash-in after refusing to cancel dubious listings on secondary sales sites, the Scottish Daily Record reports.

Ticketing firm Alpha Group Services, owned by convicted fraudster Michael Mayiger, will benefit when SSE Hydro stage big shows such as the Ed Sheeran gig on April 16 and 17, the newspaper added.

Of the 325 tickets that were listed on secondary platform Get Me In! for the concert, 161 are held by touts who have identified themselves as businesses.

Sellers who have not declared themselves to be a trader breach the 2015 Consumer Protection Act.

The newspaper said that the Glasgow venue had admitted awareness that some sellers use computer bots to beat fans to thousands of tickets and post them on secondary websites at inflated prices.

SSE Hydro and Ticketmaster, which operates Get Me In!, refused to comment on why they have not banned obvious touts and cancelled tickets.
