BookMyShow hungry to offer new dining options through Burrp acquisition

BookMyShow, the Indian events and movie ticketing giant, plans to offer new dining options to millions of its customers following the acquisition of Mumbai-based food and restaurant recommendation engine Burrp.

The purchase includes the transfer of Burrp’s key assets to BookMyShow, including employees and existing restaurant partnerships.

The BookMyShow team said the acquisition was completely in line with its current offering, and that Burrp will complement its existing movies and events business and drive food-led experiences.

Network18 has divested its interest to Foodfesta Wellcare, Burrp’s parent company and a subsidiary of BigTree Entertainment, which is BookMyShow’s parent company.

Burrp partners with 60,000 restaurants

Burrp, which was founded in 2006, currently lists over 60,000 restaurants across 14 cities. In addition to listings, Burrp recently ventured into offer redemption and couponing, along with ticketing of F&B events.

BookMyShow already offers its users the option to pre-book their F&B at cinemas while booking their movie tickets.

“Users are able to choose from exclusively curated offers and combos and save themselves the hassle while watching a movie. This vertical experienced a six-fold growth between 2015-16 and 2016-17 on BookMyShow,” said Mansi Vora, head, mergers and acquisitions, in a statement.

This is BookMyShow’s third acquisition of the year, following the purchase of MastiTickets in January and Townscript the following month.

BookMyShow recently announced plans to shift its focus away movies and turns its sights to live events and content.
