Tottenham’s 40,000 season tickets sold out for Wembley

Tottenham Hotspur’s 40,000 season tickets for their upcoming season at Wembley Stadium have sold out with five weeks to go until the Premier League campaign kicks off.

Tottenham will play at the 90,000-capacity national stadium during the 2017-18 season as work on their new 60,000-capacity home ground is completed.

Tottenham released a statement on their official website which said: “Season tickets for the 2017-18 season at Wembley Stadium are sold out.

“Ticket sales have been capped at 40,000 to ensure all are guaranteed a seat at the new stadium.”

Tickets went on sale prior to the London club announcing it would not renew its partnership with resale platform StubHub.

For the upcoming season, fans will be able to list their seat via the Tottenham Ticket Exchange system that will operate in conjunction with Ticketmaster.

In doing so, tickets will be listed at face value, something that the Tottenham Hotspur Supporters Trust (THST) has been demanding for several years.

Following the news, THST said on its website: “We are delighted that THFC has decided not to renew its partnership with StubHub. THST has opposed the deal for four seasons and, with your support, had some success in restricting the original model’s ability to drive up prices.

“This represents a very welcome move away from the incentivised touting we’ve seen on StubHub over the past four seasons and gives the Club much more flexibility over the running of the platform, something that will benefit fans.”

Tottenham’s capacity at White Hart Lane last season was just 32,000, but it could play all 19 league games in front of 90,000 fans at Wembley.

The cheapest adult season ticket for 2017-18 will be £695 ($900/€820), which is £70, or around 10 per cent, less than this year.

Meanwhile, North London rivals Arsenal remain the most expensive team to watch in the league.

Despite slashing their season ticket prices this year, Arsenal games still cost more than £100 extra than its Premier League counterparts.

Arsenal cut their cheapest season ticket by 12 per cent (£123) to £891 ahead of the 2017-18 season, but remain the dearest team by £141.
