TicketNew joins the race for the top spot in India’s online ticketing market

Indian online ticketing platform TicketNew has partnered with four cinema chains, further adding to the competition at the top of India’s online ticket market.

Alibaba Pictures-owned TicketNew struck deals with PVR, Inox, Carnival Cinemas and Cinepolis, adding more than 1,600 screens across India. The platform now provides its online movie ticketing services to more than 4,100 screens.

“We’re pleased to announce the addition of these four big names to our growing list of prominent theatres, as the continued expansion of our footprint into urban and rural markets further strengthens the value of our service. It is the largest theatre screen deployment in our 10-year history,” said Ramkumar Nammalvar, the founder of TicketNew, according to the Times of India newspaper.

BookMyShow, the leading Indian ticketing platform, now looks set to face direct competition on two Alibaba-owned fronts from Paytm and TicketNew. BookMyShow said in January that it sold about 100 million tickets in 2016, while Paytm claimed to have booked more than 25 million tickets through 3,500 screens in more than 550 cities.

The Indian state of Maharashtra will host the most TickNew serviced screens at 450, followed by more than 350 screens in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, while Tamil Nadu and Karnataka has more 250 screens.
