India’s BookMyShow kicks its Jukebox into play

India-based events and ticketing platform BookMyShow is enhancing its offering with the launch of music streaming and digital radio service, Jukebox.

The new service allows users to download songs or listen to digital radio to discover new artists and music with the specially curated original audio shows.

BookMyShow has been vocal about its desire to move away from its traditional movie ticketing business and focus more on events and content.

The movie vertical currently generates around 65 per cent of its revenue, but it wants to bring this down to around a third in the next three to five years through growth elsewhere.

The service currently offers more than 2,000 hours of on-demand content, according to BookMyShow. The Jukebox content has been separated into different categories, including Horror, Sports, Bollywood, News and Business, Kids, Comedy, Music, Entertainment, History, Mythology and Devotion.

Currently, the service is completely free and allows users to download music and audio content to listen offline.

Jukebox has been arranged to show trending content first, followed by recently added and then several other various categories.

The streaming service supports several languages with content available in over 60 shows in multiple regional languages including Hindi, Marathi, Punjabi, Tamil, Oriya among others.

In addition, BookMyShow has given those that are streaming content several data options including Data Saver, Normal, Good and HD.

Aditya Kuber, associate vice president-audio entertainment at BookMyShow, said: “As BookMyShow is moving toward becoming a 360-degree entertainment destination, we are excited to explore the potential of audio entertainment with Jukebox. To make the experience unique for each listener, we will use a mix of machine and deep learning to understand user preferences and offer content suggestions in line with them.”
