Taquilla.com banks mucho dinero in 2017

Spanish ticketing operator Taquilla.com finished a successful 2017 with €25m ($31m/£21.7m) in gross ticket sales.

The Madrid-based company said it sold more than one million tickets over the 12-month period.

It also estimated that customers who bought bargain tickets for sports events, concerts and attractions through its portal saved around €4m in total.

Taquilla.com has 96 per cent of all available online tickets on the internet, and claims to have the “most complete event inventory in Spain.”

David Fraga, Taquilla.com’s chief executive and founder, said: “Our team works every day to make access to cultural events easier in Spain. The arts deserve to be promoted, and that is what we try to do.”

Taquilla.com, which collates more than 50,000 ticket prices per day from more than 40 sales channels, said its success is due to its market-leading systems and distribution agreements.

In 2017, the firm signed partnerships with Eventbrite, Musement, Tiqets, and Expedia, among others. Adding to its portfolio that includes Ticketmaster, Evetim, Groupon and StubHub, with a total of more than 40 ticketing platforms.

“All the distribution partnership we signed in 2017 with those international affiliates will help us in our future expansion to other countries,” said Fraga.

The positive financial year was marked by the launch of the mobile app for Android and IOS and metasearch ‘Taquilla Cine.’

Taquilla.com added that it is set to announce two releases that make a difference in the ticketing marketplace.

“Much remains to be done in the technology of ticket sales,” Fraga said. “Taquilla.com, as an event ticket search engine, has a privileged role in the development of big data processing and the application of artificial intelligence techniques in this marketplace.”
