FC Groningen fans offered free match tickets

Dutch Eredivisie football club FC Groningen has offered fans free tickets for an upcoming home match in a move designed to fill the Noordlease Stadion.

Season card holders and five-year card holders are eligible to order two free tickets for Friday’s match against NAC Breda, which kicks off at 8pm local time.

In a statement on its official website, Groningen said the free tickets have been offered by the club’s supporters associations, along with players, staff and management.

The stadium has a capacity of 22,000 but, as the FourFourTwo website notes, Groningen’s matches are currently attracting lower attendances than their season average of 18,000.

Groningen are 13th going into Friday’s game against NAC Breda, who sit in 15th. The club has played at the Noordlease Stadion since it opened in 2006.
