Spotify and LN launch Who We Be concert series

Spotify and Live Nation have expanded their partnership to present a series of UK concerts inspired by the playlist Who We Be.

The music streaming serviced extended its reach into the live music world in June 2017 with the launch of the RapCaviar Live concert series in the US.

RapCaviar is another top Spotify playlist, which brought about a six-date hip-hop tour around the US, in partnership with Live Nation.

The headliners at the first two Who We Be concerts at The O2 Academy Birmingham on June 14 include Yungen, Jaykae, Ms Banks, MIST and Sneakbo. A second concert at London’s Alexandra Palace in November is to be announced soon.

Spotify’s senior editor Austin Daboh said, according to Pollstar: “Spotify launched Who We Be Live in the UK last November and the response was phenomenal – from the artists, managers, labels, and most importantly, the fans.

“We knew we had to go even bigger for 2018, and we have! We are so excited to be taking this event to Birmingham, where there is a such a vibrant music scene, as well as bringing it back home to Ally Pally in November.”

The two firms premiered the Who We Be series at the 10,250-capacity Alexandra Palace, with Giggs, Dizzee Rascal, J Hus and Cardi B all headlining the inaugural edition. The gig completely sold out.

The Who We Be playlist boasts more than 250,000 followers, though Spotify declined to divulge any further listening information to Pollstar.

According to Pollstar, Spotify will be messaging followers of the Who We Be playlist starting today (Wednesday), as well as O2 customers with an opportunity to purchase presale tickets.
