Eventbrite and Fandango have become the first operators to add ticket sales capability to their Instagram platforms.

The event ticketing and movie ticketing leaders added the function after the social media giant announced its enhancement earlier this week.

A new ‘Buy Tickets’ button is now available on Fandango’s Instagram profile, providing movie fans access to showtimes and ticketing at more than 30,000 screens without the need to leave the platform. Fandango ticketing will also roll out on movie-specific Instagram destinations in the coming weeks.

Fandango said the innovation will allow people to buy tickets more easily.

“As millions of movie fans have gravitated to social media platforms to discover, share and engage with their favourite movie content, Fandango has been essential to that experience, offering ticketing capabilities and access to the most comprehensive network of US theatres,” said Fandango president Paul Yanover.

“We’re very excited to integrate ticketing into our Fandango Instagram, and look forward to working with our studio partners to help transform consumer passion into advance ticket purchases.”

Fandango this week also announced plans to offer tickets via voice commands through a partnership with Google.

Eventbrite’s integration is available for event organisers in all of its global markets. Its existing distribution partners include Facebook, Spotify and Google.

Life Is Beautiful, the Las Vegas festival, is one of the first events to offer the Instagram ticket sales function.

“With more than 800 million active monthly users, Instagram connects live events and experiences to an audience of discoverers at scale,” Eventbrite said in a statement.
