Event discovery feature Facebook Local has been launched in France, with suggestions that ticketing capability could soon be added.

The tool combines events and permanent places into a single search engine and has been extended to include all local attractions.

In addition to finding events, the feature allows users to locate cafes, attractions and restaurants.

First launched in the US in 2016, the application is similar to Yelp but is powered by Facebook’s 70 million business listings, reviews and friends’ check-ins.

Facebook Local, which went live in the UK in February, uses people’s location to show them what’s going on nearby – from places to eat to gigs and events.

While ticketing is not yet available through the feature, it is believed that a move into the sector could be coming soon.
