Swiss ticket giants agree merger

A merger between Switzerland's two biggest ticket vendors is set to create a combined entity that could control up to 90 per cent of the country's market.

Ticketcorner already has a 60-per-cent share of the Swiss market, and will now link up with its nearest rival Starticket after a deal between the owners of the two companies.

Ticketcorner is owned by Eventim and Ringier, while media group Tamedia runs Starticket.

The deal between the three companies will only progress if it is approved by the Swiss Federal Competition Commission, with a decision set to be made by the end of the first half of 2017.

The company will be known as Ticketcorner, with Eventim and Ringier to own 75 per cent of its shares.

Klaus-Peter Schulenberg, chief executive of Eventim, said: “Many synergies will arise for the benefit of promoters and ticket purchasers. Together with our new partners at Tamedia and our long-time co-shareholder Ringier, we can provide an interesting combination of assets to the joint venture.”

Marc Walder, chief executive of Ringier, said: “The merger of Ticketcorner and Starticket reflects that ticketing – just like other industries – is faced with major challenges. Digitalisation, new technologies and distribution systems are changing this market radically.”
