Adele breaks sales records in New Zealand

British singer Adele has smashed several tour records in New Zealand ahead of her three dates at Auckland’s Mt Smart Stadium.

Tickets to see the Grammy-winning star during her shows next March sold out almost immediately when they became available this week. The Auckland stadium has a capacity of around 47,000 for concerts, which means almost 150,000 fans will be able to watch her.

According to Stuff.co.nz, Adele’s short tour of the country has broken no fewer than three domestic records.

The website said Adele became the first artist to sell more than 100,000 tickets in New Zealand in a single day, and will be the first to perform three consecutive shows in a single tour at Mt Smart Stadium.

Stuff.co.nz also said Thursday's Adele frenzy was the fastest-selling tour in NZ history. Organisers confirmed on Thursday that tickets to the first two shows sold out in "a record-breaking 23 minutes", after going on sale at noon. At 12:23, organisers confirmed a third Auckland tour date, which then sold out in less than half an hour.
