Atom Tickets to offer Star Wars goodies

Mobile ticketing platform Atom Tickets is to offer Star Wars merchandise through its website after signing an agreement with The Walt Disney Company.

From today (Monday), users who buy tickets for the new ‘Rogue One: A Star Wars Story’ movie via Atom Tickets will be able to buy exclusive products through the company’s ticketing app and website. Products offered by Atom – which Disney invested in earlier this year – include a Rogue One hoodie, t-shirt and a limited edition ticket placard.

"Disney strives to bring the highest quality theatrical experiences to audiences, and Atom has developed an innovative, social approach to ticketing that enhances that trip to the movies," said Dave Hollis, head of distribution at The Walt Disney Studios, which bought the Star Wars franchise for around $4bn (£3.2bn/€3.8m) four years ago.

"Through the Disney Accelerator Programme, we were aware of and excited by Atom's potential to offer filmgoers not only ease of use but a little something extra – and it's hard to name a more deserving fandom to kick it off with than Star Wars."

Disney, along with Twentieth Century Fox, and Lionsgate, invested a combined $50m in Atom Tickets earlier this year as the company sought to expand its reach across the US.

Matthew Bakal, executive chairman and co-founder of Atom Tickets, added: "Bringing together ticketing and merchandise has always been part of the Atom vision, but we never could have imagined that we'd launch with one of the biggest film franchises of all time. It's been an honour to work with Disney through the Accelerator Programme and we're thrilled that they're entrusting us with this exclusive Rogue One: A Star Wars Story product offering for the ultimate Star Wars fans."
