Beyonce tour generates $250m in ticket sales

Pop superstar Beyonce’s Formation stadium tour generated more than $250m (£206m/€227m) in ticketing revenue, according to Billboard Boxscore figures.

The tour, which started at Marlins Park in Miami on April 27 and finished on October 7 at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey, sold a total of 2.2 million tickets to raise $256.08m in sales.

According to Billboard, the tour averaged $5.2m in gross sales and an attendance of 45,757 per performance.

Beyonce’s two sell-out performances at London’s Wembley Stadium on July 2-3 took in $15.3m through the sale of 142,500 tickets – more than any other destination on the tour.

The highest grossing performances in North America were at New York’s City Field, which took $11.5m by selling 73,486 tickets.

Tour promoter Arthur Fogel, chairman of Live Nation’s Global Touring division, said that the figures provided evidence of a “rabid, committed fan base.”

He added: “When everybody acknowledges the greatness of the production but, more than that, everybody is blown away by her, that’s the ultimate skill.

“To not only use the platform of a great production, but to rise above it as a performer and artist, that’s her incredibly unique quality.”
