BookMyShow unveils Android improvements

BookMyShow, India's biggest movie ticketing platform, has introduced a series of changes designed to make its Android app more user-friendly.

The platform, which has made a number of technological changes in recent months, now offers features such as money splitting and wallet to Android customers. BookMyShow has also introduced a Food and Beverages option in the app to reserve snacks or meals while booking tickets.

The app operates more quickly, and now remembers previously-entered user information, such as location. In addition to the default English option, users will also be able to discover entertainment options in Tamil, Telugu, Hindi and Kannada.

“BookMyShow is obsessed with getting better and adding new features that are relevant to our users,” said Anish Tripathi, BookMyShow’s vice-president, product design.

“When we decided to make so many new additions, we were cognisant of the booking process getting complicated or the app looking too heavy and cluttered. This is why we decided to completely rebuild the app from the start, give it a total facelift while making sure that it is designed to gradually influence interaction behaviour on our platform."

The company, which sold 30m tickets during the first quarter of financial year 2017, said it is already looking to make further improvements. It also expects to update its iOS app soon.

“The new app is fully loaded with never (seen) before features,” said Tripathi. “A lot of these are a direct result of user feedback that we have received over a period of time.

“We have added more native advertising space in the app which is far more impactful yet non-intrusive. At the back end, the app architecture has been kept flexible to enable us to keep adding more features to it in the future.”
