Cubic to demonstrate ‘virtual ticket office’ technology

Cubic Transportation Systems, which integrates payment and IT technology to create travel solutions for transportation operators, will demonstrate its new NextAgent ‘virtual ticket office’ system at an event in Singapore this week.

The technology will be unveiled at the Singapore International Transport Congress and Exhibition.

NextAgent allows passengers to bypass the traditional ticket office and use a video link to see and speak with an adviser in a call centre. The customer service representative can answer questions, provide tickets and maps, as well as give advice in a range of languages. The integrated camera can also be used for document validation of maps and timetables.

Although Cubic operates specifically in the transport industry, the opportunities for the entertainment industry would appear to be enticing.

“Cities across Asia are being challenged by rapid population growth and transport infrastructure struggles to keep up,” CTS Asia-Pacific’s vice-president of strategic opportunities, Bob Deiter, said.

“The integration of transport payments, with aggregated payments data, is a useful tool to visualise choices to people living in any given community.

“Cooperation and collaboration between private business and across government is vital to enable more data to be accessible. Analytics will allow urban planners to incentivise travel to relieve congestion, while giving customers the information they need to make intelligent travel choices in growing urban centres.”
