Facebook launches ticket-ordering option

Social media platform Facebook has delved further into the online ordering market by announcing that users in the US can now buy movie tickets and order food through the website.

Facebook users are now also able to book appointments at spas and salons and obtain quotes from businesses, the network has said.

The move has significant implications in the online-ordering market, with shares of GrubHub, an online food-ordering service, falling by 2.4 per cent following the news.

Earlier this month, Facebook launched ‘Marketplace’ – a new service that allows people to buy and sell items locally.

“We’re starting to roll out these initial experiences in the US today,” Facebook said yesterday (Wednesday). “This is the first step, and over the coming months we’ll be launching even more new features that will make it easier to get things done, make confident decisions and communicate directly with businesses on your time and terms.”

Facebook also said that it would add a “recommendations” feature that would appear to step into turf occupied by Tripadvisor.
