Huddersfield backs hospital campaign through ticketing offer

English Championship second-tier football club Huddersfield Town will donate a portion of each ticket sold for this Saturday’s league match against Derby County to a community-led campaign to save the town’s Accident and Emergency hospital department.

Home tickets for the clash are available at a special rate of £12 for adults and seniors and £6 for under-18s until 5pmon Friday.

The club has said that £2 from every ticket sold will be put towards the #HandsOffHRI campaign.

Huddersfield and Calderdale health authority will announce on October 20 whether the 'Right Care Right Time Right Place' proposal is to go ahead at a public meeting. Under the proposal, Huddersfield Royal Infirmary will be demolished and replaced with a smaller hospital on the adjacent Acre Mills site. It will have an urgent care centre but no emergency care unit.

Emergency care will be centralised at an expanded Calderdale Royal Hospital in the nearby town of Halifax.

“Huddersfield Town prides itself on being a community club and 'doing the right thing' by the local area,” the club’s commercial director, Sean Jarvis, said. “We've already supported the #HandsOffHRI campaign, but we felt it was important to show our backing during an important week, with Thursday's vital decision pending.

“We've also tried to make tickets as affordable as possible for our fans to keep the home momentum running.”
