Irish politician takes aim at touts

Ticket touting could be banned at sports and music events in Ireland under new proposals put forward in the country’s parliament.

Noel Rock, a Fine Gael TD, said his private members’ bill would stop fans from being “routinely gouged by people who seek to take advantage and make a profit for themselves”.

Rock said he hopes the bill, which has been sent to the Department of Justice for feedback, will be debated and passed in the Dáil this autumn.

He admitted that similar legislation has failed in Ireland in the past.

“This bill would put an end to ticket touting for profit,” he said. “This is not a novel idea and has been proposed by my party twice in the past.”
