NFL Chiefs see prices freeze in record low temperatures

Tickets to see the NFL’s Kansas City Chiefs were selling for as little as $2 (€1.92/£1.61) over the weekend as the team prepared to play in record low temperatures.

Sunday’s home match against the Tennessee Titans was the equal coldest in the franchise’s history at a freezing -17 degrees Celsius.

The Chiefs are one of the NFL’s biggest draws, with an average attendance of 72,000, which is the 10th highest in the league.

As of Saturday evening, StubHub had tickets for the game listed for $6 and Vivid Seats had tickets listed as low as $2.

The effect of the low temperatures on resale prices was evident with Chiefs tickets on sale at an average of $70 for the remainder of the season, according to data from Vivid Seats. $70 is also the price of the cheapest primary tickets to see the Chiefs face the Denver Broncos on Sunday.

Ticket vendors said the price of the tickets was unprecedented at this stage of the season.

Jason Durbin, Tickets For Less vice-president of ticket operations, told the local KSHB news site: "Usually it's pre-season games about this price range.”

The game drew a crowd of 68,000, which was almost 10 per cent down on the 75,000 that attended the Chiefs’ previous home game.
