NHL slammed for infant ticketing policy

The NHL North American ice hockey league’s policy of insisting that an infant should have a ticket to attend the 2016 Heritage Classic with his parents has been described as “absurd” by a couple from Winnipeg in Canada.

Shalyn Meady and Clifford Anderson’s young son, William, is not old enough to sit up without assistance.

The couple purchased four tickets for the Classic and the alumni game on October 23 at Investors Group Field for $800 (£603/€713), for themselves and for Anderson’s sister and friend.

The game will feature the Winnipeg Jets and the Edmonton Oilers in an outdoor regular-season NHL game.

“It just seems so absurd,” Anderson said. “It never occurred to us that bringing William would be a problem.”

The couple contacted True North Sports & Entertainment, who referred them to the NHL. The league said that the policy is in place due to safety regulations, with the game taking place outdoors.
