Ontario man faces fraud charge on ticketing dispute

An unnamed man from southwest Ontario in Canada is facing a charge of fraud after allegedly advertising tickets for gigs featuring band Tragically Hip online and failing to deliver the products.

Police in Kingston have said that investigators identified a suspect from information supplied by a complainant who claims to have lost more than $1,000 on four tickets that never arrived.

The individual is already facing a fraud charge in relation to a different matter, according to the Canada Press news agency.

Tragically Hip played its final concert in Kingston last month to mark the end of a 15-city ‘Man Machine Poem’ tour.

Police around the world appear to be stepping up efforts to clamp down on illegal ticketing and ticket scalping. Police in Manchester and Rio in recent weeks have arrested individuals in relation to allegations of wrongdoing surrounding individuals who reportedly provided tickets for English Premier League football matches and the Rio summer Olympic Games.
