Ticketek charges for phantom AFL Grand Final tickets

Ticketek has become embroiled in another fiasco in its capacity as the official ticketing partner of the Australian Football League (AFL) after it allowed fans to pay for Grand Final tickets they had not actually secured.

Following a series of website glitches for the vendor over the course of the season, dozens of fans have now come forward to complain that they were charged for tickets by Ticketek but have since been told they were not successful.

The Daily Mail newspaper spoke to one fan who typed in his AFL member barcode, followed the prompts and gave his credit card details, at which point payment was accepted. However, instead of receiving a confirmation note he was told there was no record of the purchase.

Ticketek's managing director Cameron Hoy said there were about 30 or so cases they were looking into.

"We are working with the AFL to go through every one of those and I'm confident that together we will have that result by the end of the day," Hoy said.

TickTechNews reported earlier this month that Ticketek was ordered to refund service and handling fees by AFL chief executive Gillon McLachlan following a series of glitches experienced by fans attempting to buy tickets for the semi-final between Adelaide Crows and Sydney Swans.
