Indie festival cancelled due to poor sales

The UK’s LodeStar Festival will not take place this year due to poor sales.

The annual indie music event, based in Cambridge, was to be held for the eighth time over the August Bank Holiday weekend.

While LodeStar has established a reputation for launching promising acts, organiser Doug Durrant said the lack of sales would have meant a substandard event.

In a statement on the festival website, he said: “I am deeply saddened to tell you that I have had to cancel LodeStar. Ticket sales were far too low to run the festival to the standard I wish for.

“It’s not only a sad day personally but a sad day for the loss of such a unique independent event that was born for all the right reasons. Devastated is an understatement.”

Meanwhile, weekend tickets for this year’s Reading Festival have sold out according to organisers.

Reading, which will be headlined by bands including Red Hot Chilli Peppers and Foals, had already seen all Saturday tickets sold out. Organisers of the event, which was first held in 1989, said there are now just a “limited amount” of tickets remaining for Friday and Sunday.

Reading and sister event Leeds Festival will be held between August 26-28, with remaining tickets available through agents such as Ticketmaster, Ticketline and Eventim.
