StubHub gift cards are just the ticket for Christmas shoppers

StubHub has seen a 20 per cent year-on-year increase in gift card sales in the lead up to Christmas.

The ticket exchange platform said figures showed a significant spike during November, while Cyber Monday sales were actually up 25 per cent compared to the same day in 2015.

StubHub said the increase in interest in its gift cards correlated with a survey it recently undertook that found people would rather give their loved ones the opportunity to buy tickets to see their favourite acts than receive traditional presents such as a bottle of wine, DVD or a sweater. Some 75 per cent of the 2,000 consumers interviewed said they would prefer to give someone an “unforgettable experience”.

StubHub found that almost everyone that took part remembers their first concert, while they are less likely to remember lame Christmas presents. It also found that 43 per cent of respondents said their top choice for a gift card would be one for a live event.

“Life experiences outweigh gifts,” said StubHub president Scott Cutler.
