Orlando switch leads to Pro Bowl ticket resale price record

This year’s NFL Pro Bowl game is set to be the priciest yet for fans hoping to see the cream of the American football league.

Data from TicketIQ reveals an average resale price of $272 (£222/€260), which is the dearest since the aggregator began collating figures in 2010. TicketIQ generates its data by surveying over 90% of the secondary ticket market.

The 2017 Pro Bowl, which is to take place at Orlando, Florida’s Camping World Stadium, has so far eclipsed the record $243 average set in Arizona in 2015.

The other Pro Bowl games covered by TicketIQ have taken place in the Hawaiian city of Honolulu, which has been the all-star game’s regular home for the last four decades. The $95 resale price for the games in Hawaii illustrates the limitation of sales outside mainland US.

A return to the traditional AFC vs. NFC format will be instituted this year following a three-year, draft-selected Team X vs. Team Y layout.

While the Pro Bowl is set to break price records, the American football showpiece is still remarkably cheap compared to all-star games in other major US leagues. TicketIQ revealed earlier this year that the average resale price for NBA basketball’s all-star game was more than $2,000, with MLB baseball at $625. StubHub said the 2016 NHL all-star game fetched an average of $293.
