Free theatre outings for Sheffield students

Drama students in Sheffield are to be handed free tickets to see theatre performances at the city’s Crucible theatre.

The news was announced by Robert Hastie, the new artistic director of Sheffield Theatres, as part of an overhaul of ticketing.

Hastie has also scrapped booking fees and introduced a scheme in which 10,000 seats will be priced at £15 (€17.0/$18.5) across the entire new season.

According to The Stage entertainment newspaper, Hastie said: “We are looking to open our doors as wide as possible and in order to do that we have done some radical things with our tickets.”

The £15 tickets mean the lowest-priced seats are now £8 cheaper, although some other prices will be raised.

“This has been about looking at our box office and ways we can present a wider range of ticket prices,” he said.
