Deloitte sponsors University of Illinois free ticket initiative

Students of the University of Illinois in the US will be able to claim two free tickets each for the opening game of the college’s American football season against Murray State on September 3.

Financial services company Deloitte is behind the initiative, which comes as the university attempts to boost attendances that have flagged in recent years at the 60,700-capacity Memorial Stadium in Champaign.

Before the deal was announced, the athletics department was already offering the cheapest student ticket in the Big Ten Conference at $60 a seat.

“This partnership with Deloitte will allow many of our students to take advantage of the atmosphere inside of Memorial Stadium for the first game,” the university’s athletics director, Josh Whitman, said.

“We appreciate the commitment Deloitte has made as an employer of Illinois graduates and as a provider of a great student experience at an Illinois football game.”

Students can apply for the tickets through the athletics department’s website.
