San Francisco gets ready for Hamilton ticket sale

Tickets to see hit musical Hamilton in San Francisco are to go on sale later today, with record applications expected despite concerns as to how many seats are actually still available.

The Broadway sensation is to run at the Californian city’s 2,600-seat SHN Orpheum Theater for 22 weeks from March until September.

Tickets, priced from $100 (£80/€95), will be available online, by phone and at the theatre box office, with a maximum of six seats available per household. Officials have told the public there is no need to get online early because the virtual line is “randomised”. Website visitors will be randomly assigned a place in line at 10 am (Pacific Standard Time).

However, tickets have been available for the 43,000 SHN members and American Express credit card holders for more than a week, leading some to worry that availability will be minimal. Theatre owner SHN saw its subscriber base more than double from 20,000 ahead of the presale.

SHN spokesman Scott Kane said: “For those customers who couldn’t get tickets, there will be plenty of seats available.”
SHN said there will also be a lottery system on each day of the show, offering 44 tickets at $10 each.

Tickets on resale sites are already being offered at Stubhub for up to $2,500.
