Brazilian giant Sympla buys biggest competitor

Sympla, Brazil’s biggest event management and ticketing platform, has solidified its market-leading position by acquiring its nearest rival.

The Belo Horizonte-based company said the purchase of Eventick will expand its reach across Brazil and reinforce its position in major cities such as Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro,

Sympla experienced online sales growth of 180 per cent during 2016, totalling $35m (£28.5m/€33.7m). Its DIY service enabled 18,000 operators to organise 58,000 events over the course of the year. Sympla’s platform allows users to manage all sales channels in an integrated way and keep track of results through real-time reports.

The company’s chief executive said the Eventick deal will have a major impact on the sector in the South American country.

“This is a landmark deal that will affect the growth trajectory of Brazil’s ticketing platform market”, said Rodrigo Cartacho. “It will broaden our reach to event organisers and participants around the country offering a modern, simple, agile and reliable experience in ticketing and event management.”

The deal was also backed by Movile, the global leader in mobile marketplaces which has been a major investor in Sympla since it was founded in 2012.

“With the growth and engagement we’re seeing, Sympla is positioned well to extend its leadership across Latin America and beyond. We intend to utilise the expertise that Movile has developed scaling marketplaces around the world to support and empower Sympla to build a leading global ticketing platform,” said Fabricio Bloisi, chief executive of Movile.
