SeatGeek launches Pano 360-degree seat view

SeatGeek has launched a full panoramic view tool that will allow ticket buyers to make better choices when selecting their seat.

The new Pano feature offers a 360-degree view of the empty venue, with customers able to compare the view from the different seats.

The company built Pano in partnership with its first primary ticketing client, Major League Soccer team Sporting Kansas City. Features of Pano include fans’ ability to see the view of the SKC field at Children’s Mercy Park from every section in the stadium.

“Since starting SeatGeek, we’ve always been on a mission to use technology to make the process of finding and buying great tickets as easy as possible,” said Jack Groetzinger, chief executive of SeatGeek. “Pano is a powerful tool that enables fans to truly experience what they’re buying before they purchase.”

Pano is SeatGeek’s latest innovation, with the company having become the first to offer ‘View From Seat’ images and pioneering the use of interactive maps. SeatGeek said “Pano takes that focus on the best ticket-buying experience to the next level”.

SeatGeek said Pano was created by taking high dynamic range photos from hundreds of locations around Children’s Mercy Park and using them to create a digital model of the venue. It employed technology that is commonly used in the robotics world.

From those flat images, engineers wrote software that allows for an understanding of the depth of the images in a way that would “truly represent each view and be most helpful to fans”.

“We’re delighted with the Pano technology SeatGeek has provided us at Sporting Kansas City for 2017 and beyond,” said Gregg Allen, vice-president of ticket sales and service for SKC.

“First-time buyers will undoubtedly enjoy this very fan-centric element of the buying process, and help validate their purchase decision before attending the match.”
