Sutton season ticket-holders to miss out on Arsenal clash

English non-league football club Sutton United has said that it is “bitterly disappointed” after it emerged that some season ticket-holders have missed out on tickets for the upcoming FA Cup fifth-round match against Premier League giant Arsenal.

The game will take place at 5,000-capacity Gander Green Lane next Monday.

Huge queues of fans formed on Sunday morning, with home fans originally able to purchase two tickets per person, as long as they held a season ticket or a half-season ticket before the fifth-round draw.

However, such was the level of demand following Sutton’s extraordinary run through the competition, some fans have not been able to get their hands on a ticket.

“Having successfully sold tickets for the sell-out games against AFC Wimbledon and Leeds United we are bitterly disappointed that some of our loyal and fantastic supporters have been left without a ticket for the Arsenal game,” Sutton’s chairman, Bruce Elliott, said.

“We will clearly look at what we could have done better, and will review our ticketing policy for future games. We are a traditional non-league club who pride ourselves on being a volunteer-run community club, and are learning every day.

“We, as a club, have never experienced such a huge demand for tickets. We followed the same protocol for the Wimbledon and Leeds games in relation to the selling of the tickets, as this had worked extremely well.

“We sincerely apologise to those supporters affected either by queuing or telephoning, a day that saw over 4,000 tickets sold in five hours, and promise we will learn from what happened.”
