Over 1,000 London schools apply for Para Athletics tickets

At least 90,000 children from more than 1,000 London schools have applied for tickets to attend this summer’s IPC World Para Athletics Championships.

The tickets cost £3 per child, while accompanying adults and teachers can attend for free.

Schools were initially invited to apply for five midweek sessions, with mornings being prioritised for primary schools and the evening sessions for secondary schools and colleges.

The overwhelming demand for the midweek tickets has pushed organisers to set up an extra day for school attendees on the Sunday morning.

The event will take place at London Stadium from July 14-23, just a few weeks ahead of the IAAF World Championships of athletics.
The sessions are being prepared to accommodate large school parties and organisers have set up a package of support to ensure an easy process for ticket applications from schools and attendance on the day.

Every child attending the sessions will be able to travel free of charge on Transport for London services. Additionally, a volunteer will greet each group and lead them throughout the day.

Championship director Niels de Vos said: “We are absolutely thrilled to have received such a massive response to the London schools ticket offer.

“Being part of the World Para Athletics Championships really is a trip of a lifetime and we know that attending a live sports event of this magnitude can really inspire a generation.”

This year is the first time that the IAAF World Championships and World Para Athletics Championships will be hosted by the same city in the same summer.
