Strictly ‘Spectacular’ event criticised for charging extra for photos

Strictly Come Dancing, the BBC dance show, has been criticised after fans hoping to attend its ‘Spectacular’ live event complained the £400 price tag for some packages is too high.

The £70 basic ticket price for ‘Your day out with the stars’ at London’s ExCel centre in June gives fans access to talks from some of the programme’s contestants, a fashion show and a performance by some of the dancers, according to UK newspaper the Daily Mail.

However, it does not include a photo taken with the celebrities or sitting at the judge’s desk, with such privileges coming at an additional cost which totals up to £400. To meet one of the judges, it will cost £26.80 each, while the same fee applies to meet host Tess Daly, spin-off show presenter Zoe Ball and Christmas special dancer Gethin Jones.

For £21.80, fans will be able to meet the professional dancers, and for celebrity contestants such as Judy Murray it will cost £15.

One fan who had bought tickets told The Sun’s Simon Boyle:”’It’s very steep – and has taken the gloss off the excitement of going.”

A BBC Worldwide spokesperson said: “These are professionally taken photographs with the visitor receiving a glossy print. Charging for these opportunities is standard practice to manage demand and our prices are lower than what is usually charged for a photograph with onscreen talent.

“Many experiences are included as part of the standard ticket price, including the chance to dance with the Strictly pro dancers for the first time ever.”
