West Ham United, the English Premier League football club, has announced a price freeze on its season tickets for next season.
For the 2016-17 season, the club’s first term at its new London Stadium home, the cheapest adult ticket was £289 (€330/$351), with an under-16 season ticket costing £99.
Tickets for its second campaign at the former Olympic Stadium will remain the same price for holders who renew for the 2017-18 season.
West Ham currently has 52,000 season-ticket holders and a waiting list of 55,000.
“We promised to provide affordable Premier League football for our 52,000 founding season-ticket holders, and that promise is on-going,” said West Ham’s co-chairmen David Sullivan and David Gold said.
“It was important for us to reward the loyalty of our season-ticket holders, and to say thank you for the unwavering support of the team during our historic inaugural season at London Stadium.
“The devotion, ideas, passion and commitment our supporters have shown has been truly overwhelming and reinforced what we have always known – that West Ham United is a family.”
During its first season at London Stadium, West Ham has only won five of its 14 Premier League matches. The start to the season was dogged by safety problems, with fan violence and complaints about standards of policing and stewarding.
The move was welcomed by the club’s striker Andy Carroll, who said: “It is great that the club are freezing the prices and that can only be good for families who come to watch West Ham and good Premier League football.
“It is a good stadium. The first year was always going to be hard with people finding their feet and the fans getting to know the stadium. The atmosphere will only get stronger.
“We have got a new training ground as well and the stadium is fantastic so I don’t see why we cannot attract the big name players.”
