Live Nation launches rock legends festival The Classic

Live Nation has unveiled details of a new two-site North American rock legends festival, The Classic, which appears to be the entertainment company’s answer to Desert Trip.

Taking place in Los Angeles and New York City in July, The Classic will feature performances by the Eagles, Steely Dan and Fleetwood Mac (pictured). The Doobie Brothers, Journey, and Earth, Wind & Fire are also to star at the events at Dodger Stadium in California and New York’s Citi Field.

All six of those headlining acts are represented by CAA, which is thought to be producing the events alongside Live Nation and Oak View Group.

The three-day Desert Trip – nicknamed OldChella – was held for the first time in October 2016 and featured Bob Dylan, Paul McCartney, The Who and The Rolling Stones. The Indio, California event, which was organised by Goldenvoice, attracted around 225,000 spectators in total.

The capacity of Dodger Stadium for music events is believed to be around 60,000. The home venue of the LA Dodgers MLB baseball team will host Classic West on July 15-16.

Citi Field, home of the New York Mets baseball team, has a capacity of more than 45,000 including standing room. It will host Classic East on July 29-30.

The Classic tickets are to go on sale next Friday (April 7), with no option to attend for just a single day. Regular two-day tickets range from $150 (£120/€140) to as much as $950, while a Classic Gold VIP package – which includes a floor ticket in rows 11-20 – costs $1,750.
