Hockey launches social media drive to boost World Cup ticket sales

Hockey’s global governing body wants to use social media to drive ticket sales after launching pre-registration for next year’s 2018 Hockey World Cups, which are taking place in England and India.

The International Hockey Federation (FIH) is offering fans who pre-register for tickets before April 30, 2017 the chance to win limited-edition Adidas World Cup Hoodies as part of a social media competition across FIH Twitter, Instagram and Facebook channels.

The women’s event is being held at Lee Valley Hockey and Tennis Centre in London between July and August, while the men’s is at the Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar in November and December.

Fans can register their interest in purchasing tickets via a brand new Hockey World Cups 2018 website: worldcup2018.hockey.

The FIH said demand is “set to be high”, and fans that register “will be kept up to date with all the latest news from both events, including key ticket dates, pricing and any exclusive offers over the coming months”.

“The launch of the new World Cups website and pre-registration for tickets marks an important milestone in the countdown to the Hockey World Cups,” said FIH chief executive Jason McCracken.

“Apart from the Olympic Games, our World Cups are the pinnacle of the sport. The content being shared across our digital channels will really boost excitement amongst fans and athletes in the lead up to these events, which I’m sure will further increase during the Hockey World League Semi-Finals – our World Cup qualifiers in June and July.”
