Former BlackBerry exec Chiarello takes over at Intellitix

Intellitix has appointed former BlackBerry tech executive Carlo Chiarello as its new president and chief executive.

The Montreal-headquartered provider of technology-driven solutions for festivals and live events specialises in RFID-based cashless payments such as wristbands.

Chiarello was previously the chief executive of the tech support group, the Lazaridis Institute (LI), and successfully launched its first National Scale Up Programme in 2016.

“I’m honoured and excited to be joining a market leader in event FinTech and the cashless future,” said Chiarello.

“Intellitix has many technology firsts in the event industry and a rock solid team. I look forward to the next chapter in driving growth and scale.”

Prior to the Lazaridis Institute, Chiarello was the chief product officer and chief operating officer at Powermat Technologies Ltd (Israel), where he helped introduce a cloud-based mobile engagement IOT platform able to monetise via advertising, couponing and pay to charge strategies.

Great communicator

He also worked for 11 years in several executive roles at BlackBerry, reaching the position of executive vice-president of the BlackBerry Handset Division. During his time with the company, he launched over 50 smartphones globally, while scaling many aspects of the business.

“Carlo is a great communicator and has a track record of building and growing focused teams and managing change,” said Serge Grimaux, the outgoing chief executive and founder of Intellitix, who will remain active as chairman of the board.

“This combined with his international experience and broad industry knowledge will help to create the next stage of growth for Intellitix.

“I am very pleased to see Intellitix having grown so much that it can now count on a professional chief executive of Carlo’s calibre. Intellitix will now have the opportunity to continue its path to great success.”
