BookMyShow says its new progressive web app (PWA) has already led to soaring mobile web figures.
The Indian ticketing business, which last month announced it wants to move away from its traditional movies business and focus more on events, said the PWA was developed to offer a more immersive app-like experience to consumers.
It took about four months to develop the web app – an app that effectively runs through a web browser – with roll out beginning over the last few weeks.
Anish Tripathi, vice-president of product design at BookMyShow, told the Economic Times that the web app is especially targeted at those consumers who are on low-end smartphones and face poor network connectivity.
“This web app launch was the next logical step for us but we are just scratching the surface here in terms of features.” Tripathi said.
The company said it has experienced an 80 per cent increase in conversion rates and the revenue contribution of mobile web has increased dramatically since the launch of the PWA.
