PMY Group appoints Richard Knight as European CEO

PMY Group is to bolster its growing presence in Europe through the appointment of Richard Knight as its regional chief executive.

PMY, a leader in technology strategy, investment and management company, opened offices in London in February and has already secured several high-profile European clients, such as London Olympic Stadium, the England and Wales Cricket Board and Ireland’s Croke Park.

The company said its investment into the European market is “the next phase in the global expansion of PMY”.

Knight was formerly stadium director at Twickenham for the Rugby Football Union (RFU), and previously held a number of senior management and consulting roles at some of the world’s most iconic stadia including Wembley, the Olympic stadium in Sydney, the Hong Kong stadium, and the Shah Alam stadium in Malaysia.

Knight said: “I’m very happy to be joining a company at the cutting edge of public space and stadia technology and look forward to leveraging my venue management expertise to drive PMY’s expansion into Europe.”

As well as Knight’s arrival, the company also announced that Adam Pitt, PMY’s head of business and technology solutions for Europe, is to relocate from Australia to lead a team of technical experts to drive European operations.

Smart stadiums and mobile ticketing

PMY works closely with leading clients in the sport and entertainment, stadium and venues, government, retail, infrastructure and transport sectors and has established itself as a leader in the fast-growing digital and technology sector. In the age of the smart stadium, PMY and its clients are focusing on consumer-facing utilities and content features such as high-density Wi-fi solutions, mobile ticketing and cashless payments.

Since the group’s inception, PMY has engineered state-of-the-art digital and technology projects at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG), Allianz Stadium, Adelaide Oval, Metricon Stadium, Perth Stadium, Flemington Racecourse and various other major sport, entertainment and retail sites. It recently created and delivered the strategy to deploy more than US$7.6m (£5.9m/€6.7m) of fan-facing technology into Melbourne’s 53,000-capacity Etihad Stadium.

Speaking about PMY’s move into Europe, Paul Yeoman, group managing director, said: “The business has experienced a significant period of growth across Australia, New Zealand and Asia.

“Europe presents an enormous opportunity to expand the business. The timing to leverage the knowledge, expertise and experience we have developed into the northern hemisphere could not be better.”

PMY Group was recently nominated as a finalist in the 2017 Supplier of the Year category at the Stadium Business Awards in Dublin.
