English Championship football club Nottingham Forest has cut its ticket prices for three games in September as it bids to boost the atmosphere at its City Ground stadium.
The three home fixtures that will only cost fans £20 ($26/€22) are against Wolverhampton Wanderers, Fulham and Sheffield United. Adult tickets for the most recent home game at the club’s 30,500-capacity City Ground, against Leeds United, cost £28, which means a 28 per cent decrease during what the club has dubbed ‘Super September’.
The club has sold 18,000 more tickets for the first three home games of 2017-18 compared to last year.
After passing the 17,000-mark in terms of season ticket sales earlier this week, chairman Nicholas Randall thanked fans for their “overwhelming” support. Season tickets for the 2017-18 year costs Forest fans £370 for all blocks, while 18-20 year-olds and 12-17-year-olds pay £250 and £150, respectively. Children up to 11-years-old can attend games for free.
“When the club was taken over we were told that there was such negativity within the fan base that our ambitious plans to rebuild the club would fail. We knew that you would prove those people wrong and we are delighted that you have done so with such an emphatic sign of your support,” Randall said.
Forest has recently gained new owners, led by Evangelos Marinakis, as well as being under the management of Mark Warburton.
“I have spoken with Mark Warburton and his team. They have confirmed that your support this season, both home and away, has provided inspiration to them all,” Randall said. “They are a developing team adapting to a new style of play and when they have needed your support you have responded magnificently and made an incredible contribution to our promising start to the season.
“It is, of course, not just season card sales. We have now had three home fixtures in the league, which have seen an additional increase in attendances of 18,000 at The City Ground by comparison with the first three home fixtures of last season. Again we are overwhelmed with your support.
“The Board and management are keenly aware of the importance of trying to keep ticket prices affordable. We know that many of you cannot afford a season card or are unable to attend all home games because of work and family commitments.
