Rio Olympic tickets trial suspended

The trial at which former Olympic Council of Ireland (OCI) president Pat Hickey was reportedly set to testify has been suspended.

Brasilia’s Supreme Court said that an injunction to suspend the case – a step already granted to THG Sports executive Kevin Mallon – would extend to all others listed for the case, including Hickey, according to the Irish Times newspaper.

THG was the Irish authorised ticket reseller (ATR) for the London 2012 and Sochi 2014 Olympics, but not the Rio 2016 event.

The proceedings, scheduled for November 29 in Rio, will now be placed on hold.

Mallon’s lawyers, claiming they were “unable to build their client’s defence”, pushed for his injunction.

The OCI recently “terminated” its contract with THG.
