Ticket prices soar for College Football Playoff

Ticket prices for the US College Football Playoff championship have skyrocketed following the University of Georgia’s win at the Rose Bowl.

The game is set to take place at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, making the championship game against the University of Alabama a virtual home game for Georgia.

Yesterday (Monday), the lowest-priced tickets on StubHub were listed for $2,080 (€1,724/£1,534), while the highest reached up to $94,999.

Alabama also has an expansive fanbase in relatively close proximity to the Mercedes-Benz Stadium, meaning ticket prices are unlikely to drop before next week.

According to the AL website: “SeatGeek.com listed tickets in the 300 level for $2,100. The lowest-priced seats in the 100 level were listed for $2,990.

“ScoreBig.com listed tickets from $2,639 for the 300 level to $11,728 for 100-level seats. The site was also selling tickets to the pre-game tailgate party for $73.”

The College Football Playoff is set to take place on January 9 at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium, which opened in August 2017 and has a 71,000-capacity.
