Paytm ticketing sees six-fold growth

Paytm sold more than 52 million movie and event tickets as its sales figures soared in 2017.

The Indian ticketing and payments giant saw a six-fold growth from the previous year, as it continues to push its expansion in the ticketing sector.

Its entertainment vertical, which it launched in March 2016, has seen Paytm partner with more than 4,000 movie screens across multiplex operators like PVR, Cinepolis and INOX and several regional chains.

“After an exceptional 2017, we have had a great start in 2018. Our aim this year is to become market leader in the entertainment ticketing category and sell over 100 million tickets across India,” said Madhur Deora, chief financial officer and a senior vice president at Paytm, according to the LiveMint website.

“We will continue growing the overall ecosystem by adding single-screen cinemas and expanding into smaller cities and towns.”

Last year, Paytm acquired a majority stake in event ticketing platform Insider.in, allowing the firm to show events listed on Insider.in on its own platform, giving it a significant lift to its offerings.

Paytm also became the official ticketing partner for the India-New Zealand T20 cricket match on November 1 last year, as well as ticketing for popular music concert Bacardi NH7 Weekender, among others.

“At Paytm, we believe that our ability to reach millions of transacting users will help the organisers to scale rapidly. We look forward to partnering with organisers and taking them to customers across India,” Deora said.
