Tiqets launches Chinese travel app with WeChat

Millions of Chinese tourists can now buy tickets for major events across Europe without leaving the WeChat messaging and social media app thanks to a link up involving KPN and Tiqets.

WeChat GO is a collaboration between Tencent’s WeChat, which is the world’s largest standalone mobile app by monthly active users, Dutch telecoms company KPN and Tiqets, the Dutch ticketing platform.

Through WeChat GO, Chinese consumers can buy tickets for transport and venues in Europe within their familiar chat environment.

WeChat has more than one billion monthly active users, and 902 million daily active users. More than five million Chinese tourists visit Europe each year.

Maarten Raaijmakers, co-founder and chief supply officer at Tiqets.com, said in a LinkedIn post: “Excited to announce this new partnership with KPN and Tencent, making culture more accessible for our growing number of Chinese customers.”

Tiqets is nominated in two categories for the TheTicketingBusiness Awards 2018. Chief executive Luuc Elzinga is nominated for Executive of the Year, and Tiqets is in the running for the Ticketing Business of the Year Award.
