How do today’s fans want their tickets…?

Bob Catt, Head of UK Sports at Eventbrite will be sharing insights at next week’s TheTicketingBusiness Forum into how sports fans have embraced smartphones – and will be expecting their clubs to be doing the same with their ticketing option.

“Some clubs and venue operators might assume that fans aren’t ready for the jump to paperless yet. Until recently, they weren’t wrong about this,” says Catt.

“Most paperless systems require access to the internet and a smartphone to get your ticket, and older ticketing systems might require a printer for print@home.

For a long time, having all this has not been a given for truly all sports fans, but things are very different today.

Virtually the entire UK population (93 per cent) now has access to the internet, and smartphone adoption among UK adults stands at 85 per cent as of mid-2017 (up from 52 per cent just five years ago; among 18-45 year olds, smartphone adoption has been over 90 per cent for several years).

It is now hard to imagine fans who wouldn’t appreciate ordering and receiving their tickets within seconds, wherever they are, instead of queuing at a box office.

And modern systems also offer optional paper tickets in addition to the electronic one, which should please fans who appreciate the nostalgic nature or paper.”
