Liverpool fans set for refunds amid Champions League travel disaster

A group of Liverpool fans who missed the UEFA Champions League final due to travel chaos are set to be offered match ticket refunds by the club.

The 15 fans endured a lengthy attempt to travel to Kiev for last Saturday’s showdown before ultimately being stranded in Helsinki.

The Liverpool Echo newspaper said the club will consider refunds for the group, who were among many who experienced travel chaos in their bid to reach the Ukrainian capital.

Their flights from Helsinki in Finland, booked through World Choice Sports, were cancelled when the travel agent failed to secure landing spots at Boryspil airport outside Kiev.

Liverpool had promised ticket refunds to those fans who were unable to get to Kiev, if they returned their tickets to the club before Saturday’s kick-off.

This was impossible for the fans stranded in Helsinki, but the club is now set to show some leeway in its stance.

The Echo said the fans will have to show documentation of their cancelled World Choice Sports booking, and paperwork for any subsequent flights they took in an attempt to reach Kiev.

A copy of their match tickets and any other booking documentation also needs to be supplied.
